In SquirrelMail, you can tick what kind or receipt you want – when it’s read, or when it’s delivered, or both. With Horde, you simply need to tick the “Request a Read Receipt” box above the main text area for your email. Below are screenshots of how you request a read receipt in each of these interfaces – in each case it’s simply a case of ticking a box when you send an email. If your site is hosted on a CPanel server and you access your mail via webmail then you probably have your favourite email client out of Horde, SquirrelMail and RoundCube. Generally the recipient gets a message saying something like “This sender has requested a read receipt, is this OK?” So they’re not to be relied on, and really should only be used in the case of sending important information (so that the recipient doesn’t feel like they’re being stalked if you ask for one every time!).
Well, often it depends on the recipient’s email system and whether that allows read receipt requests through / whether it caters for them, and often whether the person who reads the email actually wants to send you a receipt. However, if you are looking for more functionality in a nicely presented package, then take a look at RoundCube. It has a small selection of tools, but the interface is unlikely to overwhelm novice users. If you are looking for a simple, no frills webmail application, SquirrelMail will do the job just fine.
Out of the three webmail apps we have covered here, Horde is the most fully featured, and is comparable to Outlook in functionality.
Roundcube horde or squirrelmail full#
The Horde webmail application is recommended for users that are looking for a full suite of options and features, which includes mobile access to emails and productivity tools that are a little more advanced than Roundcube’s. Email composition includes a spell checker.
Roundcube has an intuitive and good-looking interface, including all of the features of SquirrelMail as well as a number of additional features, including: RoundCube is a webmail application that is easy to use, user friendly and has some other features that system administrators can add and customize.
